Report: Identity Theft Up 20%

 A new report from the Identity Theft Resource Center claims that breaches of personal data are up 20% in 2014. The cybercrime research group defines a personal data breach as any instance of one’s personal information, such a Social Security number or medical record, is compromised by criminals.

The report, detailed in a TIME article, reports that the data of over 10 million people was compromised in 381 data breaches. Several of the data breaches were high profile cases involving well-known companies such as Snapchat and Target.
